Learning to decorate a cake

Anne has joined 4H this year and is participating as a clover kid. Since she is a younger member, she gets to explore lots of different projects to see what she likes. She really wants to learn how to decorate a cake, so I've tried to show her some things.

Lesson 1: How to neatly frost a cake

Anne learned that you need to keep the spatula on the cake the whole way across the top. If you pick it up in the middle of the cake, you will get cake crumbs in your frosting.
Mom learned that it takes a lot of frosting and patience to assist in cake decorating.

Lesson 2: Using a round and star tip to decorate cookies

Anne learned that it is fun to make different things and really liked making flowers and shells.
Mom learned that the frosting that comes in a bag with tips is well worth the extra cost. So much cleaner, neater and requires far less patience.
